Sweetie served in the Air Force and many of our friends are veterans, so this year he decided to have a Veterans’ Day Bang Party. Which means a bunch of people heading out into the field behind the brewery and shooting guns at a target.
I know lots of my readers are wondering about the appeal, and a decade ago I was right there with you. I’d never shot anything beyond a BB gun at some soda cans until I started dating Sweetie. I still know squat about guns, but there’s something fun (and bonding) about hanging out with a bunch of people, admiring each other’s firearms and trying them out.
Cousin Jesse (top pic), Sweetie, and our friend, Phil, pinged the target with impressive accuracy – even at 230 feet.
In this picture, the three of them decided to try shooting left handed. Still lots of ping noises from the target.
Me? Not so much. At 10 feet I was lucky to hit the target once in a round. Ah well.
The horses weren’t so impressed with our activity. They were curious enough to watch, although they did keep their distance. Jazz (our mare) was wise enough to make sure Treasure was between her and the gunfire.
The best thing was I found I gun I really enjoyed shooting. Don’t laugh – it’s a .22. There, among the 9mm and .45 pistols, I fell in love with this. It’s on my Christmas list. Hint, hint.
Happy Veterans’ Day, and thank you to all who have served or are currently serving!

I grew up shooting and it is a fun pastime. We still shoot whenever we can.

Next year you’ll need to find a reason to come up. It’s going to be an annual event!

Looks like you had a fun day, Debra. Wish I could have been out there shooting with you. Happy Veterans Day!
